Some plans are being discussed as to how to save the flats and racing… Stay tuned Would love to visit under a full moon night… PS: I am absolutely not a car person yet I had a blast listening to all the characters I encountered during my two days on the salt flats.40☄7′59″N 113☄8′00″W / 40.79972°N 113.80000°W / 40.79972 -113.80000 We saw many stuck vehicles… Studies show the salt flats may not be here much longer – they are thinning at an unprecedented rate – see them now before they disappear. You can skip from shade to shade as most vehicles are under cover - Word to the wise, watch where you drive. After three washes, I still find salt… True it’s hot but most of the time there is a nice breeze that keeps you cooler. Drove brand new van and found salt in holes and crevices I never knew existed. Washing your rig off salt will take quite a while. Also, a radio to hear the comments on 89.3, the local race channel. Thankfully there are many stops along the way, even an ice-cream, cold drink truck goes up and down the flats… If you care to see the race, binoculars will help – everything is deceivingly far away. We walked it 4 times and it was quite tiring. Bringing an old bicycle, you don’t mind being salty is a good idea as the pit extend over 5 miles long. Everywhere we asked we received different directions or answers. ![]() You don’t come here if you need things to be in order, organized. So many awesome characters to listen to as you peruse along the pit, seeing all the amazing machines people have created on low or high budgets. ![]() Came here for Speedweek racing and quickly realized you don’t come to the Salt Flats to watch the racing, you come to talk to the old timers who tinker with cars and have done so for decades upon decades. ![]()
